Headlands 50k Policies.

Updated 6/15/2005

1. Refunds/Returns.. basically: we don't give them. And that is pretty much the case for almost any and all circumstances. This is because the event is a small event with big costs and no real sponsors (the permit fees alone run well over $1500 (don't even ask what the t-shirts/awards cost)). We want to encourage people to think carefully about particpating in our event - and then commit to running in it. If you find yourself getting injured close to race date and can't particpate - volunteer. We can always use course monitors, clean-up people and anything else you can think of.

1b: Clothing. Our clothing policy is simple: first come, first served. We will do our best to make sure we have the size t-shirt/sweatshirt you've ordered, but we make no representations as to the true nature of the size (e.g - one manufacturers large may really be a XXL, or vice versa -we go by what they tell us) We recomend trying out your sweatshirt/shirt/hat, etc before you take it home with you and that you follow label directions in the care and washing of the garmet. If the sizing on the shirt you've ordered from us(either the t-shirt or Sweatshirt) doesn't fit too well - you can let me know and I'll see if I have one I can trade you, but if I can't - I'm sorry.

2. Entries are non-transferable. Transferring entries can create monumental bookeeping headaches that I (Guy Palmer - your RD) don't want to deal with. If a friend of yours wants to run the race - tell him/her to visit our website and sign up.

3. Staying on the proscribed course: Simply put - you will be disqualified from the official results if you fail to report into each of the proscribed aid stations in their proper order. ( You don't need to do anything more than just go through the aid station - course monitors there will note your presence/passing).

4. Be courteous. Hikers, Bikers, equestrians, and tourista's are all using the same recreational area you are. As best you can - be aware of there presence and try to be as courteous as you can - we don't want to piss these folks off because all it takes is a few irate hikers/bikers/whatever and next year we won't be able to get a permit.

4b: Be careful when crossing the roads. There are a number of major road crossings in the race. We do the best we can to make your crossing as safe as possible, but the bottom line is - you are the best judge of the state of your abilities at any point in the race. You are ultimately responsible for your decision to cross any road at any time. Don't fight traffic and when in doubt, wait till you have a good opportunity to cross. And again, we are not resposible for errors in judgement of you and/or on the part of the drivers on the road and/or our course monitors assisting you in crossing.

5. As best you can - don't litter. Try to dump your garbage at the aid stations. As part of our permit we have promised to pack out our trash and leave the facilities in as good of ( or better) shape as we found them in.

6. Finally, and this is the most important- have a great race! Many of you come from far away to run this race. Enjoy the scenary, take in the views (if any - I have to admit, every year we've run the race it has been swamped in fog) and revel in the cool coastal temperatures!
